Press Release VAALA’s Theatre for Youth Presents
Huntington Beach, Calif. – One mysterious illness, six rumbling countries and 12 superpowered kids will all be featured in the Vietnamese Arts and Letters Association’s Theatre for Youth’s very first play “Around the World in 120 Minutes.” “Around the World in 120 Minutes” will be performed on Friday March 28, 2008 at 7:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m. at the Huntington Beach Library Theater located on 7111 Talbert Avenue, Huntington Beach, CA 92648. Directed by Uyên Huỳnh (artistic director of Club O’ Noodles), “Around the World in 120 Minutes” features 12 young performers, ages 9 to 14, Angela Bùi, Ethan Khiêm Matsuda, Jasmine C. Nguyễn Minh Uyên, Jimmy Đại Nguyễn, Judy Nguyễn, John Phan Vinh Huy, Kevin Phan Vinh Khoa, Khoa Phan, Tố Tố Phan, Jennifer Trần, Helen Trần and Theodore Vũ. The play is choreographed by Sophie Bảo-Trân Trần and Jenni Trang Lê. Costumes are designed by Thái Nguyễn Couture. Each of the 12 children is unique in character. Their personal traits, assets and even shortcomings are woven throughout the story—even as they travel through different time periods, different countries and take on different roles. The story resonates with themes of friendship, jealously, ambition, teamwork and love. “Around the World in 120 Minutes” is a play that will embark audiences of all ages on a delightful adventure. This all-children cast play will be mostly in English, with some Vietnamese.
