In honor of the Moon Festival, VAALA will hold the 11th annual Moon Festival Children’s Art Contest. As the main event of the weekend, the art contest encourages youth to explore their creativity in a socially stimulating environment. Each year, approximately three hundred children ages 5 to 15 participate in the 2-hour pre-registered art contest. Their artwork is judged by a panel that includes professional artists, educators, and community leaders.

Continuing the partnership from last year, we are collaborating again with Festival of Children Foundation (FOCF) (, a 501(c)(3) ), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is “to improve the lives of children by strengthening the charities that serve them.” Every September, Festival of Children Foundation hosts a month long event at South Coast Plaza geared towards children and families and this year is especially exciting as they will be celebrating their 10th year anniversary. This year, we will host our Awards Ceremony at South Coast Plaza, syncing up our program with FOCF so that we can share our rich Moon Festival traditions with a diverse community.

The Awards Ceremony, which drew over 800 audience members in previous years, will include youth-led music, singing, and dance performances, and a Fall fashion show. All of the artwork from the contest will be exhibited at VAALA Cultural Center at 1600 N. Broadway, Ste. 210, Santa Ana. Please join us in celebrating the Moon Festival, supporting youthful creativity, connecting and enriching communities through art and culture.
