Huntington Beach, CA – The Art Gallery at Golden West College is pleased to present Coin of Light, a multi-media exhibition featuring works by Ann Le, Kiyomi Fukui Nannery, Diana Nguyen, Hiromi Takizawa, and Lawrence Yun. The exhibition borrows its title from Ocean Vuong’s poem Torso of Air (2016). Vuong’s verse alludes to the moment “a coin of light appears,” signifying the instance of discovery, an illumination of an intention just beyond the boundary, or perhaps hidden within. Consider each artwork as a chance to catch sight of such a moment of revelation. Ann Le’s unnatural subjects juxtaposed against lush, tropical landscapes; Laurence Yun’s floras so veritably and delicately painted their artificiality is exposed; Kiyomi Fukui Nannery’s vulnerable experiments on ephemeral, print surfaces; hues hazily refracted by Hiromi Takizawa’s visions of light; and curious environments encapsulated in Diana Nguyen’s ceramic works. The other side awaits.
